Weekend in Salzburg.

Thanksgiving weekend, we took the train to Salzburg for a little family get-away before the grind of final exams. The city of Mozart, the Von Trapps and the Sound of Music - finally! The boys were just getting over a nasty cold, and I was just coming down with it, but we already had our tickets, so re-adjusted our ambitions; slept in, saw what we could, stopped more often for hot drinks and rest, and went back to our hotel for naps. Gotta go with the flow!
Crossing over the Salzach River into the Old Town.
Mozart's birth house.
Little trooper.
Salzburg is situated on the banks of the Salzach River, parked up against a dramatic rock cliff.
Ancient medieval horse baths.
St. Peter's Church.
St. Rupert (660-710), bishop and founder of Salzburg, is buried here.
His hat blends in, but if you look to the left hand lower corner, you will see a little head admiring the crèche.
Dominic is such the walker now, we have to let him out of the stroller to stretch his legs now and again.
The "friedhof" (cemetery) of St. Peter's is very renowned and beautiful.
Adjusting the weather attire before moving on.
We took the funicular up the cliff to explore Hohensalzburg Fortress.
Mama the Navigator.
There was a little Christmas market in the castle courtyard.
Marionettes are a popular entertainment media still in Austria, but Michael wasn't too sure what to make of the marionette museum in the castle.
The old castle well.

People thought they were so cute.
We walked back down the castle road to check out the Christkindl markets.
Oh dear, looks like we will have to get him a set in the near future.

Love love these star lanterns.
All the main streets were decorated with lights and greenery. In addition to the two prominent Christmas markets, there were smaller ones tucked away in Salzburg's old town corners.
Such a festive atmosphere!
Sunday morning walk through the Mirabell Gardens - lots of the Do Re Mi songs from the Sound of Music were filmed here!
Missing my 6 sibling counter-parts.
There we are! Good memories, and we are ever forever bonded for life by this experience.
Lots of these European bridges have love locks.
We attended Sunday Mass in the 17th century Baroque Salzburger Dom. This is where Mozart was baptized and worked as organ master before moving to Vienna.
Michael had to "talk" to the cherubs on the front altar rail. He was shaking their hands and kissing their cheeks.
His "Mass is over, where's my lunch?" face.
Salzburg is the town where the Mozart kunglen (ball) was invented, and we found the first confectionery shop that sold them. Mozart balls are marzipan covered with chocolate.
One last stretch of the legs before the train ride home!
